Family History My grandfather played timpani drums in the Dutch Cavalry Band and later in an orchestra. My father played the piano and electronic organ in the 50s, 60s, and 70s, doing gigs on weekends, teaching music at home and schools, and orchestrating for dramatic and philharmonic societies in South Africa. Returning to Holland in 1980, he did gigs until his retirement at age 77.
My first gig at 15, was playing drums with my dad. After leaving home at 16, I played guitar in a duo with my brother Pete for a number of years. The success we had in the 70s as an acoustic duo in Cape Town formed the building blocks of my musical career.
As a solo musician I have performed in restaurants, social clubs, hotel bars and lounges, at coctail parties, corporate functions, weddings, birthday parties, New Years Eve parties etc. I have also played in bands on lead guitar, bass, drums and keyboards performing in South Africa, The Netherlands, Denmark and the United Kingdom.
As a studio musician/technician I worked for many years in South Africa composing and recording music for documentaries, TV series and radio jingles. I have worked as a technician at the NOS in The Netherlands and when I moved to the UK in 2001 I assisted in the media courses and setup the music technology department at Itchen College in Southampton.
